Zone VI DMT Snr Champions!

A huge congratulations to Jivanka Kruger and Reinhardt van Zyl for achieving this without having a Double-min trampoline to practise on!!  Both showed sheer guts and determination that day.

2013 FIG Zone VI Coaching Course/Training camp

During August 2013 the Trampoline and tumbling section of the Namibia Gymnastics Federation hosted John Beer from British Gymnastics in Walvisbay as presenter of a coaching course to Namibian coaches.

Namibia has a total of 5 trampolines ranging from Eurotramp to 1 Nissen trampoline.  All trampolines have the 6x4 trampoline beds and Walvisbay have 3 Eurotramps for the gymnasts to practice on.  Only 2 Eurotramps have the full specs regarding safety mats.  The rest of the trampolines have make-shift safety mats.

The coaches that attended were the following:

V Kostin                 -                  Walvisbay, WBGC        -      Bulgerian
J Kruger                 -                  Windhoek, Excelsior     -      Namibian
E Burger                -                  Windhoek, Intendo         -      Namibian
M Kesslau              -                  Outjo                               -      Namibian
Y Petrov                 -                  Outjo                                -      Russian
Lesley                   -                    Walvisbay, WBGC        -      Namibian

The duration was from Monday 26 August until and including Friday 30 August 2013.  The venue was the Jan Wilken Sport stadium and each day the course took place from 08:30 till 12:30, and from 14:00 till 16:30.

The T&T section made sure that all coaches received a manual that John send to the T&T section beforehand to print out.

Below an excerpt from the invitation to all clubs in the NGF:

“Please be advised that John Beer will be coming out to Namibia as the expert trampoline coach as part of the FIG Zone VI Training Camp being held at our club from Monday 26 August until and including Friday 30 August 2013. There will be only training for selected Trampoline and Double Mini Trampoline gymnasts in Level 4&Up.

We are hereby pleased to announce that John Beer of the FIG Academy will be presenting a coaching course for coaches from the 26th August 2013 to the 30th August 2013 at the Walvisbay Gymnastics Club.  Everyone interested in attending this course, please send your details to the following email address: xxx@iway.na

Each prospective coach will be responsible for his own transport and accommodation in Walvisbay.”

All level 4 gymnasts were invited from all clubs to aid them as well and to prepare some gymnasts that would travel to Sofia to attend the 22nd WAGC.

The main coaching topic was trampoline basics and then we went further to show the coaches the step by step method of teaching various double salto’s, with and without twists, and with multiple twists.  John Beer touched on the DMT as well as some gymnasts that attended the course, only participate in DMT.

The coaching sessions was attended by all coaches each day and the amount of information transferred impossible to measure.  The insight i.r.o. trampolining that John Beer transferred to the gymnasts was impeccable in the sense that most of them displayed change behaviour in the positive after the first day.

The philosophy of John in respect of coaching new skills to young gymnasts was widely accepted as good.  His presentation was simple and basic, filled with fun and the occasional humor was loved by all.

His saying “difficulty made easy” made sense to all as he was able to connect all coaches through understandable English and the occasional demonstration by himself.

His coaching on the analysis of routines was very good, as well as how to build and analyse routines to benefit the gymnast at the end.

The whole course was funded from the Zone VI budget and my sincere thanks to those people as well.

I can recommend John Beer for any such coaching courses due to his immense knowledge, his easy way of communicating to different people and coaching skills to adults as well as children of all ages.
